Temple of Apollo Pythios

Four columns of the Temple of Apollo Pythios remain standing on the hill above the city of Rhodes. These limestone remnants supported a structure dedicated to the god of light and healing. Built during the second century before Christ, the sanctuary occupied a commanding position over the ancient acropolis. When archaeologists excavated this site in the nineteen forties, they found evidence that the temple served as a sanctuary for the Rodian citizens who sought divine favor before entering the city gates.
