Street of the Knights of Rhodes

The Street of the Knights of Rhodes is a narrow, cobblestone road that climbs steadily from the harbor toward the Palace of the Grand Master. Seven stone inns line the path, each built by the Order of Saint John to house knights grouped by their native language. In fourteen eighty, the Grand Master Pierre d'Aubusson ordered these buildings reinforced with defensive masonry after a failed Ottoman siege. The knights carved their national shields into the facades, still visible above the heavy wooden doors today.
