Viewpoint Western Shoreline and City

A series of heavy iron cannons sits embedded muzzle-first into the stone embankment along the shoreline. These relics from the Ottoman era were repurposed by the Italian administration in the nineteen twenties to serve as mooring posts for small vessels. While the harbor served as a major naval hub for centuries, these specific guns were removed from the ramparts of the old city walls and hammered into the quay. Their rusted frames anchor fishing boats today, catching the spray from the Aegean Sea.
