Spain's tower

historic

The tower of Saint Nicholas stands at the end of the stone mole in Mandraki Harbor. Its base is a heavy, round bastion built by the Knights of Saint John in the middle of the fifteenth century to guard the narrow harbor entrance. A Grand Master named Zacosta paid for the structure, and his coat of arms remains carved into the masonry. Ships once relied on a massive chain stretched from this tower to the nearby fortress to block enemy fleets from entering.
