Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes

The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes is a massive stone fortress featuring two distinct, circular defensive towers flanking the main entrance. Built in the fourteenth century, the palace served as the administrative headquarters for the Order of Saint John. In nineteen thirty-one, Italian governor Mario de Vecchi ordered a full reconstruction to serve as a summer residence for Mussolini and King Victor Emmanuel the third. Workers used marble and mosaic floors taken from other local sites to finish the project.
