Gate d'Amboise

The Gate d'Amboise is marked by a pair of massive, rounded towers flanking a stone bridge that spans a deep, dry moat. It serves as the main entrance into the fortified Old Town of Rhodes. Construction finished in fifteen twelve, commissioned by the Grand Master of the Knights of Saint John, Emery d'Amboise, to reinforce the city against Ottoman attack. His coat of arms is still carved directly above the entryway, standing watch over the transition from the modern harbor into the medieval walls.
