The Manikarnika Kund is a rectangular stone tank tucked away from the riverbank, defined by the deep green color of its water and the steep, weathered steps that line its perimeter. Local tradition holds that Lord Shiva lost an earring here while bathing, and the water is said to be filled by the sweat of his brow. Pilgrims descend these stairs to bathe in the pool, believing the act cleanses them of their sins before they approach the sacred fires burning nearby.
