Arg of Karim Khan

The Arg of Karim Khan stands out with its four massive circular brick towers, one of which leans at a visible angle. Built in the seventeen sixties, this fortress served as the royal residence for Karim Khan Zand, who chose Shiraz as his capital. He aimed to transform the city into a center of art and culture, often inviting local architects to compete on designs. One of the towers cracked during construction, leaving the fortress with a permanent, heavy tilt that remains to this day.
