Moshir-ol-Molk mosque

The Moshir-ol-Molk Mosque features a striking entryway decorated with seven-colored tiles that shift in hue depending on the intensity of the sunlight. Built in the mid nineteenth century by Mirza Abolhassan Khan Moshir-ol-Molk, the governor of Fars, the mosque served his household and the surrounding neighborhood. The most distinct feature remains the underground pool chamber, or howz-khaneh, which sits beneath the prayer hall. During the sweltering Shiraz summers, the governor’s family used this cool, sunken space to escape the heat.
