House of Poems

The tomb of Hafez sits under an open-sided pavilion, topped by a copper dome shaped like a dervish hat. The structure rests on eight stone columns, shading a marble sarcophagus engraved with lines from the poet’s own works. In the nineteen thirties, the French architect André Godard designed this pavilion to evoke the spirit of the fourteenth century. He placed the grave in a garden that people have visited to recite verses and seek omens for hundreds of years.
