Shahid Dastgheyb Library of Shiraz

The Shahid Dastgheyb Library stands out with its distinct hexagonal design, a rare shape for a public building in this part of Shiraz. It functions as one of the city's oldest public libraries, established in the nineteen fifties. The building sits on land once belonging to a private estate, repurposed to house a vast collection of Persian manuscripts and books. During the renovation in the nineteen eighties, workers uncovered an old water channel running directly beneath the main reading room, still flowing with subterranean mountain water.
