The former Fukuromachi Elementary School building holds a section of a charred, black concrete wall inside a glass case. During the nineteen forty-five atomic bombing, this building served as an emergency medical station. Survivors who sought help here used pieces of chalk to write messages to their families on the interior walls. When the school was renovated, builders preserved these specific wall segments. The building remains a record of the final messages left by people caught in the center of the blast.
