Hondori Shopping Street stretches for nearly six hundred meters under a continuous glass roof, separating it from the weather and traffic of central Hiroshima. This pedestrian arcade began as a modest collection of neighborhood merchants in the early twentieth century. After the atomic bombing in nineteen forty-five, the street served as a primary site for the city's early recovery, with shopkeepers clearing rubble to resume trade among the ruins. It remains a dense, enclosed corridor of neon, retail chains, and local food stalls.
