Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum

The Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum features a jagged, reflective glass exterior that creates a sharp contrast against the lush green backdrop of Shukkeien Garden. Opened in nineteen sixty-eight, this institution was the first public art museum established in Hiroshima after the Second World War. Its collection grew significantly when it absorbed pieces from the former Prefectural Library, including a collection of industrial art that once belonged to local merchant families who survived the atomic bombing and sought to rebuild the city’s cultural identity.
