Shukkeien Garden

Shukkeien Garden centers on a miniature landscape where a central pond mimics the Inland Sea, complete with islands and bridges. Lord Asano Nagaakira commissioned this strolling garden in sixteen twenty, tasking his tea master, Ueda Soko, with the design. It served as a villa retreat for the Hiroshima domain rulers for centuries. When the atomic bomb struck in nineteen forty-five, the garden became a scorched refuge for survivors, holding memories of the blast within its ancient pine trees and stone lanterns.
