The Fukuromachi Elementary School Peace Museum stands out with a preserved section of its original reinforced concrete wall, scarred by the heat and blast of nineteen forty-five. Inside the classrooms, charred remains of desks sit exactly where they were when the atomic bomb detonated. Students and teachers used the school walls as message boards to search for missing family members, scratching names and notes into the plaster with pieces of charcoal. Their desperate messages remain visible on the salvaged wall panels today.
