The Gates of Peace consist of ten glass towers standing nine meters tall, etched with the word peace in forty-nine different languages. Designed by artist Clara Scremini and architect Karres en Brands, these structures were installed in two thousand and five to welcome visitors approaching the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Each panel captures and refracts the surrounding light, casting patterns that shift throughout the day. They bridge the gap between the busy city streets and the quiet, somber grounds of the park itself.
