Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum holds two stark concrete buildings connected by an elevated walkway, designed by Kenzo Tange to frame the skeletal remains of the Genbaku Dome across the park. Opened in nineteen fifty-five, the museum exists to document the reality of the atomic bombing of August sixth, nineteen forty-five. Its exhibits center on the personal belongings of victims, such as a child’s charred tricycle and a melted lunch box, recovered from the rubble in the decades following the explosion.
