Okonomimura

landmark

Okonomimura is a five-story building filled entirely with stalls serving Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. It began as a cluster of informal food shacks that emerged in the rubble after the nineteen forty-five atomic bombing. These stalls provided cheap, hot meals to survivors and laborers rebuilding the city. Local street vendors eventually moved into this dedicated vertical village to formalize their business. The scent of savory cabbage and batter frying on iron griddles has filled these narrow corridors for decades.
