Explanada del Jardín Principal Allende

The Jardín Principal is a flat, manicured square where the trees are pruned into perfect, rounded cubes. Every afternoon, the town converges here under the shade of Indian laurel trees. In eighteen eighty, the square was a chaotic market until the local authorities evicted the vendors to create a European style plaza. A woman named Doña Josefa once famously fought to keep her stand here, refusing to move until officials forcibly dismantled it, leaving the stone floor for musicians and strollers instead.
