Plaza Cívica

The Plaza Cívica wears a bronze statue of Ignacio Allende on a horse, pointing toward the mountains. Beneath the paving stones lies the original market site where vendors sold produce and livestock for centuries. In nineteen seventy-three, the city government excavated the area to build an underground parking garage. They discovered colonial foundations and moved the bustling daily market out to the edge of town, leaving this wide, open expanse for civic ceremonies and the occasional brass band performance.
