Neptune Fountain

The Neptune Fountain stands out for its curved, stone basin and the dark, central bronze figure of the Roman god holding his trident. Local stonemasons carved the structure in the late eighteenth century, back when the town relied on a precarious system of public water distribution. Don Manuel Tomás de la Canal paid for the work to ensure the neighborhood had a reliable supply. Years later, neighbors still gathered here daily, waiting in line with clay pots to collect water for their homes.
