Apteka pod Orłem

The Apteka pod Orłem, or Pharmacy under the Eagle, features a distinct corner entrance topped by a prominent stone eagle emblem. Between nineteen forty-one and nineteen forty-three, this was the only pharmacy operating within the walls of the Kraków Ghetto. Its proprietor, Tadeusz Pankiewicz, remained in his flat above the shop after the Nazi authorities ordered all non-Jewish residents to vacate the district. He spent those years smuggling hair dye, medicine, and food to the ghetto’s inhabitants under the guise of medical supply runs.
