Jama Michalika | Est. 1895

Jama Michalika features a series of narrow, interconnected rooms filled with thick, dark wooden furniture and walls covered from floor to ceiling in original caricatures of turn of the century artists. It began as a simple coffee shop opened by Jan Michalika in eighteen ninety-five, but it quickly became the unofficial headquarters for the Young Poland movement. Poets and painters traded their own sketches for free meals here, cementing the cafe as the center of bohemian life in the city for decades.
