South African National Gallery

The South African National Gallery features a long, low facade of sandstone and decorative plaster that sits quietly within the Company's Garden. It functions as the primary art museum for the nation, housing a collection that spans from colonial era landscapes to contemporary beadwork. In nineteen thirty, the architect Cleland designed the building to house a gift of over forty-five paintings from Sir Abe Bailey. Bailey stipulated that the gallery must include a space specifically for British art, which remains part of the interior layout today.
