Iziko Old Town House Museum

The Iziko Old Town House is the building with the pale, rococo facade standing directly on Greenmarket Square. Built in seventeen fifty-five, it served as the city’s first civic building. In the early twentieth century, Max Michaelis donated a collection of seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish masters to the city, and the house was repurposed as a gallery. Sir Hugh Lane, a famous art dealer, helped select the paintings, many of which still hang in the same rooms where municipal officials once held court.
