Zeenatul Islam Mosque

The Zeenatul Islam Mosque features a simple, cream-colored facade topped with a singular, modest dome and a slender minaret. Established in eighteen eighty-four, it stands as one of the oldest mosques in the Bo-Kaap and Zonnebloem area. During the forced removals of the nineteen sixties, when the surrounding neighborhood was declared a whites-only area under apartheid, this building remained. It served as a rare, surviving anchor for the displaced community, keeping the congregational history of the local Muslim population intact.
