Cape Town City Hall

Cape Town City Hall sits at the edge of the Grand Parade, defined by its honey-colored oolitic limestone facade and a central clock tower modeled after Big Ben. Completed in nineteen oh five, the building was the result of an international design competition won by architects Reid and Green. On February eleventh, nineteen ninety, Nelson Mandela stepped onto the balcony facing the square to deliver his first public speech after twenty-seven years of imprisonment. He addressed a crowd of over one hundred thousand people.
