Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum

The Bo-Kaap Museum occupies a house built in seventeen sixty-eight, identifiable by its bright teal exterior and the classic Cape Dutch gable facing the street. It was once the home of Abu Bakr Effendi, a scholar sent from the Ottoman Empire to teach local Muslims in the nineteenth century. While the house has functioned as a museum since nineteen seventy-eight, its walls still hold the story of the families who stayed here through the forced removals of the apartheid era.
