Charly’s Bakery is covered in bright, painted patterns and pastel colors that stand out against the grey concrete of Canterbury Street. Jacqui Biess and her husband Charly opened this shop in nineteen eighty-nine, moving it through several locations before landing here. They became famous for elaborate, gravity-defying cakes covered in fondant and sprinkles. Even after Charly passed away, his wife and daughters kept the ovens running, decorating every treat by hand in the same colorful style.
