Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery

The Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery features a storefront with glass display cases packed with jars of crack seed and traditional Chinese pastries. It occupies a space on Maunakea Street where the Chang family has operated since nineteen twenty-six. Chang Kui Sing started the business to sell preserved fruits and herbal snacks brought over from China. While the surrounding neighborhood changed through decades of urban development, the shop kept its original recipes for almond cookies and manapua, still baking them in the back.
