National Archeological Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

The National Archaeological Museum occupies a building with high arched windows and a prominent central dome, easily spotted as the former Buyuk Jami or Great Mosque. Built in the late fifteenth century, the structure served as a religious site for hundreds of years before the Ottoman withdrawal. Following the liberation, the state repurposed the space to house antiquities, cementing its role as the oldest museum in Bulgaria. It opened its doors in nineteen oh five to showcase the diverse artifacts unearthed across the country.
