Central Market Hall of Sofia

The Central Market Hall in Sofia features a distinct, rounded corner tower topped with a small clock. Naum Torbov designed the building in nineteen eleven to pull the city's chaotic, scattered street vendors into a single, sanitary space. During construction, workers uncovered the foundations of a Roman bath, which remain tucked away in the basement level today. You can still see how the iron supports and wide glass roof were meant to bring an airy, modern feel to the local produce trade.
