Women's Market

The Women's Market features long, parallel rows of open-air stalls shaded by heavy, industrial metal awnings. Established in the late nineteenth century, it began as a space where women from surrounding villages brought their own produce to sell directly to city residents. While the city grew and modernized around it, the market kept its chaotic, traditional character. Traders still call out prices for seasonal peppers and white cheese, and the narrow lanes remain the oldest operating marketplace in Sofia.
