The bright, oversized paintings spilling out of the doorway mark Arte Getsemani Gallery. This space occupies a former colonial house in a neighborhood once home to local laborers and street vendors. While the rest of Cartagena often focuses on high-end boutiques, the artists here work in the vivid, saturated colors of daily Caribbean life. A decade ago, local painters reclaimed this building to showcase portraits of neighborhood fruit sellers and fishermen, keeping the history of the streets on the canvas instead of outside.
