EL BALUARTE SAN FRANCISCO JAVIER

El Baluarte San Francisco Javier is the jagged, coral-stone bastion that juts out from the city wall, pointing directly toward the Caribbean Sea. It was completed in sixteen thirty to protect the harbor from invaders like the English privateer Francis Drake, who had successfully looted the city decades earlier. Inside the thick ramparts, a soldier named Francisco de Murga oversaw the construction, incorporating limestone and local coral to create a barrier designed to withstand heavy naval cannon fire from passing warships.
