St. Olaf's Church is marked by a spire that rises nearly four hundred feet above the Tallinn skyline. Between fifteen forty-nine and sixteen twenty-five, this copper-clad peak made it the tallest building in the world. It exists as a monument to merchant ambition, built by seafaring traders who wanted their spire to be a beacon for ships navigating the Baltic Sea. Lightning has struck the tower at least ten times, causing the church to burn down completely on three separate occasions.
