The Eglise Notre-Dame du Port features a pair of colossal Corinthian columns flanking its entrance, which face directly toward the Mediterranean sea. King Charles Felix of Sardinia commissioned this church in eighteen forty-six to serve the growing merchant neighborhood near the harbor. Joseph Vernier designed the facade, though its final construction dragged on for decades. A local merchant reportedly insisted on funding the interior carvings, provided his own likeness was tucked away among the stone saints guarding the nave.
