Monument aux Morts de Rauba-Capeù

The Monument aux Morts de Rauba-Capeù is a massive, hollowed-out block of limestone carved directly into the cliff face at the edge of the Mediterranean. It commemorates the thousands of local soldiers from Nice who died during the First World War. Architect Roger Séassal designed the relief, which depicts a grieving family and a fallen soldier, but the most striking detail remains the eternal flame glowing behind a bronze gate. It sits precisely where the sea spray hits the stone during a storm.
