Le Passage Notre-Dame features a distinctive arched stone entrance tucked between the tall, narrow facades of the Chartrons district. This narrow pedestrian corridor dates back to the early nineteenth century, constructed to connect the busy quays along the Garonne River to the merchant houses deeper in the neighborhood. While its quiet atmosphere feels removed from the city today, wine merchants once used this cramped thoroughfare to move barrels and crates swiftly from the riverboats directly into the private cellars of their warehouses.
