La Promenade Verte

The ground you are walking on was once a noisy industrial corridor. This path follows the route of a former freight railway line that used to connect the train stations of Bécon-les-Bruyères and Colombes. For decades, the iron rails carried heavy goods traffic, physically cutting through the local landscape until the tracks were eventually decommissioned. After the trains stopped running, the area sat inaccessible to the public for years. City planners spent a decade in preparation and eighteen months of intensive construction to transform this industrial scar into the linear park you see today. To reclaim the space for nature, workers planted over one hundred and thirty trees, including Japanese cherry and maple, alongside thousands of shrubs and perennials. The promenade officially opened to the public in 2018, repurposing the old railway bed into a continuous, car-free artery that serves as a quiet green link between schools, neighborhoods, and the regional transit network.
