Parc Diderot stretches between the high-rises of La Défense as a long, terraced slope of lawn and stone. It opened in nineteen ninety-two, designed by landscape architect Allain Provost. He built the park to mimic a mountain landscape, complete with a stream that cascades down the center of the green space toward the Seine. At the top of the incline, a waterfall drops from a stone wall, masking the constant hum of traffic from the nearby bypass with the sound of rushing water.
