Guignol de l'Ile

cultural

The Guignol de l'Ile in Issy-les-Moulineaux stands as a modern link to a centuries-old tradition of French street performance. Opened in September 2017, it is the youngest outdoor puppet theater in the region. The stage is led by puppeteer Pascal Mesnier, a professional who trained at the historic Guignol Anatole theater in the Buttes-Chaumont park of Paris. By maintaining this open-air format, the theater preserves the interactive spirit of the original nineteenth-century shows where audiences, particularly children, actively shout warnings and advice to the puppets during their struggles against villains.
