Square Baudin features a prominent bronze bust of Jean-Nicolas Baudin mounted on a high stone pedestal. This park occupies land that belonged to the nineteenth-century explorer who led the first French expedition to map the coast of Australia. During the eighteen hundreds, Baudin grew exotic plants on this very soil, turning his property into a private botanical garden. After the town acquired the plot, they kept his name for the square to mark his legacy as a scientist and navigator.
