Impasse du Tir

landmark

Impasse du Tir takes its name from the military shooting range that occupied this ground throughout the nineteenth century. Soldiers from the nearby forts practiced here, turning the quiet path into a place of constant noise and gunpowder smoke. When the range finally closed, the narrow street kept the name, even as small workshops and houses replaced the target butts. The high stone walls at the far end of the lane still hold a few iron hooks from the original perimeter fence.
