Square du Caporal Peugeot

A bronze bust of a young soldier stands at the center of this small, shaded square. He is Julian Peugeot, a corporal who served in the French army during the First World War. Peugeot died in nineteen fourteen, one of the earliest casualties of the conflict, while scouting near the border. The city named this space for him in nineteen thirty-three to honor his sacrifice. A few benches surround the statue, tucked beneath the trees where the neighborhood traffic feels distant and quiet.
