Le Balzac features a narrow, illuminated marquee that cuts across its plain stone facade on the Rue Balzac. This cinema opened in nineteen thirty-five, commissioned by the director Abel Gance to showcase his own films with the highest possible technical quality. While many theaters from that era closed or converted into retail space, this one kept its single, cavernous auditorium intact. It still operates as an independent house, retaining the original velvet curtains and the wide screen layout Gance insisted on for his projects.
