Odeonsplatz

Odeonsplatz features an open, yellow loggia modeled directly after the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence. King Ludwig the First commissioned this square in the nineteenth century to give Munich a taste of Italian classicism. In November nineteen twenty-three, the square became the site of a final confrontation during the Beer Hall Putsch. As police blocked the path of Nazi marchers, shots rang out, leaving fourteen putschists and four policemen dead on the cobblestones. The square remained a stage for power long after.
