Wurmeck

The Wurmeck stands at the intersection of Residenzstrasse and Theatinerstrasse, marked by the bronze statue of the Madonna mounted high on the corner of the building. This spot earned its name in the fourteenth century from the Wurm family, who owned the house that once stood here. During the seventeenth century, the Elector Ferdinand Maria commissioned the statue as a thank-offering for the birth of his long-awaited heir, placing the figure where it could watch over the bustling heart of Munich.
