The Geschwister-Scholl-Platz is a wide, stone-paved square directly in front of the main building of Ludwig Maximilian University. It features two large, circular fountains at its center, which are often surrounded by students sitting on the stone edges. The square serves as a memorial to Hans and Sophie Scholl, siblings who attended this university and led the White Rose resistance group against the Nazi regime. In February nineteen forty-three, they distributed anti-war leaflets in the building’s halls and were arrested here.
